BOTANICAL CARD OF BONSAI
Common Name: FICUS RETUSA - Family: MORACEAE
Its origin is between southern China, the Philippines, Borneo and Malaysia. It has compact vegetation with leathery, shiny, obovate, quite small leaves. It is widely used as a bonsai in the countries of origin.
The reduction of the aerial part will be simultaneous with the first repotting and pruning of the root system. In temperate climate regions these operations must be carried out gradually, protecting the plant for at least one month after repotting. Thicken and shape the foliage by reducing the new shoots to 2 leaves during late spring-summer.
This plant grows in areas with a very humid climate, so spray the foliage at least once a day, water in pots when the soil is completely dry.
Every 20-30 days from spring to autumn and every 50-60 days in the other periods.
In the apartment, expose in a very bright place but not to direct sunlight or near heat sources, outdoors in bright but shady areas. Ficus is a plant that loves heat, so in winter always protect it in greenhouses or in warm places.
It is possible to perform the ligatures in any period, protecting the bark.
