How to care for it

Keep it indoors in front of a bright window, out of direct sunlight through the glass during the hottest summer hours and away from radiators and cold draughts in winter. Water when the top centimetre of soil is dry: with a shallow container like this one, just 9 cm deep, it may need water every day in summer, while in winter the intervals become much longer.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive exactly the plant in the photo?

Yes, it is a one-of-a-kind specimen and the photo shows the very plant that will be sent. As it is a living plant, the foliage may look different from the picture due to growth, pruning, pinching or seasonal changes: trunk, nebari and pot remain those shown.

Do the measurements given include the pot?

No. The 37 cm height refers to the plant alone, while the rectangular pot measures 34 x 23 cm and is 9 cm high. The weight of 5.9 kg is the total, plant, soil and pot together.

Can it stay in a flat all year round?

Yes. Ficus retusa is an indoor species in our climate and should be kept inside in winter too, above 12-15 °C. From May to September it can spend time outdoors in a sheltered spot, coming back in before the cool autumn nights.
