How to care for it
Japanese pepper needs plenty of light and dislikes waterlogging: water when the top centimetre of soil dries out, more often from June to August, and cut back sharply in winter. Below 2-3 °C it is best moved to a cold greenhouse or a sheltered corner, as prolonged frosts damage the thinner branches.

Frequently asked questions
Is the plant I receive the one in the photo?
Yes, this is a one-of-a-kind specimen and the photo shows the exact plant that will be shipped. As it is a living plant, the foliage may look different on delivery due to growth, pruning, pinching or normal seasonal changes. Structure, trunk and measurements remain as stated.
How much space does it take up once placed?
The pot measures 30 x 25 cm at the base and the plant reaches 48 cm in height, with a canopy that spreads widthways on several levels. Allow at least 60 cm of free width for good air circulation. The total weight is 5.6 kg.
Can I keep it indoors all year round?
No. Zanthoxylum piperitum is an outdoor species: indoors it loses vigour and tends to become leggy. Place it on a bright terrace or balcony and move it under shelter only during winter frosts. Short stays indoors of a few days are tolerated.
