Kumquat bonsai in a square pot

Presentation

The Kumquat (Fortunella obovata) is a small evergreen citrus that bears oval orange fruit, edible skin and all. Here it comes with a single upright trunk and a compact canopy, in a white square ceramic pot with rounded edges. It is a fitting choice for anyone looking for a living wedding favour with a striking decorative touch, as well as for corporate gifts and event giveaways.

How to care for it

The kumquat needs full light: from April to October keep it outdoors in full sun, while in winter it should be sheltered above 5-7 °C, in a bright room away from radiators. Water when the top centimetre of compost dries out, generously in summer and with low-lime water, cutting back during the cold months and never letting water stand in the drip tray.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive exactly the plant in the photograph?

No. As this is a favour produced in batches, the photo shows a representative specimen of the same variety. Every piece is the same species, with the same 14x14x13 cm white square pot and the same dimensions, 25-30 cm in height, but each individual plant differs in the shape of its canopy.

Does the plant always carry fruit?

Fruiting depends on the season. The kumquat flowers in spring and summer and ripens its fruit between autumn and winter, so during the middle months of the year the plant may be delivered with small or still green fruit, or simply with its evergreen canopy.

How much table space does it take up as a place setting?

The pot base measures 14 x 14 cm and the overall height, pot included, is around 38-43 cm. The weight of 3-4 kg per piece is worth bearing in mind when ordering large quantities for weddings or corporate events.
