How to care for it

It should be kept outdoors all year round, in a sunny spot: it is a species of the Mediterranean maquis and with too little light the internodes lengthen, losing the compactness of the canopy. In summer, with this leaf mass and a pot only 16.5 cm deep, check the substrate every day and water when the surface layer dries out; in winter watering becomes much less frequent.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it weigh and how is a 40 kg specimen shipped?

The total weight of plant, pot and substrate is 40 kg. It is shipped with reinforced packaging, with the pot secured at the base and the canopy protected. A second person is needed to move it at home: the pot is 56.5 cm wide.

Will I receive the plant shown in the photo?

Yes, it is a one-of-a-kind specimen and the photo shows the exact plant that will be sent. As it is a living plant, the foliage may look different from the picture due to natural growth, pruning, pinching or seasonal changes. The trunk, the 35 cm nebari and the overall design remain those in the photo.

Can it be kept indoors?

No. Phillyrea is an outdoor Mediterranean evergreen and needs direct sun and temperature swings to keep dense foliage and short internodes. A balcony, terrace or garden are the right places, even in winter in mild-climate areas.
