Presentation

Specimen of Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) with a slanting trunk, plated bark and foliage gathered on a single front. The plant is 115 cm tall, with a 25 cm nebari and surface roots clearly visible over the moss. Its size and total weight of 100 kg make it suitable for a permanent position in the garden or on a terrace, for collectors used to handling large bonsai.

How to care for it

The Aleppo pine wants direct sun all year round and lives outdoors at all times, winter included. Water generously but at spaced intervals: water when the surface of the substrate is dry, more often from June to August and far less in the cold months. As for feeding, we recommend a slow-release granular fertiliser in spring and in late summer, to keep the needles short and the colour compact.

Is the plant that arrives the one in the photo?

Yes, it is a one-of-a-kind specimen and the photo shows the actual plant that will be sent. As it is a living plant, the foliage may look different from the picture due to natural growth, pruning, pinching or seasonal changes. The trunk, nebari and pot measurements remain as stated.

How much space and what weight should I allow for?

The lotus-flower pot measures 80 cm in diameter by 23 cm in height and the plant reaches 115 cm, with foliage spreading sideways beyond the rim of the pot. Total weight is 100 kg: a stable outdoor position and at least two people for handling are needed.

Can it be kept indoors?

No. The Aleppo pine is a Mediterranean outdoor conifer that needs direct sun and the seasonal temperature range to keep its needles short and its buds vigorous. Indoors it declines within a few weeks. A garden, terrace or south-facing balcony are the correct positions.
