What it is for

It collects the water that comes out of the planter's holes after watering. It is especially useful when the planter stands on a tiled terrace, a windowsill or an indoor floor, where repeated run-off leaves marks and limescale deposits that are hard to remove. The pairing is dedicated: the rectangular 80x45 cm base follows the footprint of the 80 cm smooth resin Fenice planter box (SKU CASFENICE80) and is not designed for other models.

How to use it

Place the drip tray on a level surface and position the planter so that it fits into the seat moulded into the base. The ribs keep the planter raised by a few millimetres, so the drainage hole is never submerged.

After every heavy watering check the level: water left standing for days causes root rot and, in summer, becomes an ideal spot for mosquito larvae. Empty it or soak it up with a sponge. In winter, with planters kept outdoors, it is best to keep it dry: we suggest tilting the planter slightly during long spells of rain to avoid prolonged standing water.

Can I use it under a different planter?

The base has a seat shaped to match the bottom of the 80 cm Fenice planter box. A planter of a different shape will be unstable and will not rest on the ribs. If the base measures 80x45 cm and has a smooth rectangular profile, the match will work; in all other cases a generic drip tray is a better choice.

How much water can it hold?

The basin is shallow, so it holds a useful film of water after watering, not litres. With an 80 cm planter full of deeply soaked compost it can fill up quickly: keep an eye on it during the first few minutes and empty it if the water reaches the rim.

Is it frost resistant on a terrace?

Yes, the resin used for the Fenice range withstands temperature swings and does not flake in the sun like some lightweight plastics. The only thing to watch is the water: if it freezes inside the basin it can push against the walls. Empty it before heavy frosts.
