How to care for it

Bougainvillea only flowers with many hours of direct sunlight: from April to October it should be kept outdoors in the brightest position available. In midsummer the 36 cm pot dries out quickly and may need watering twice a day, while in winter, with the plant sheltered from frost, water sparingly and only when the substrate is dry.

Frequently asked questions

Is the plant I receive the one in the photograph?

Yes, the photo shows the exact specimen that will be shipped. As it is a living plant, the foliage may look different from the picture: pruning, pinching and seasonal changes alter the canopy and flowering, while the trunk, the 10 cm nebari and the semi-cascade styling remain those of the image.

How much room does it take once in place?

The hexagonal pot is 36 cm in diameter and 34 cm high, and the plant adds a further 35 cm vertically. The canopy, however, falls sideways beyond the rim of the pot, so a raised surface or a table is needed to let the cascading part develop freely.

Can I keep it indoors?

No, this is an outdoor bonsai. During the growing season it needs full sun on a terrace or in the garden; in the cold months, below 5 °C, move it into a cold greenhouse or a bright conservatory. Indoors it would lose its flowers and vigour within a few weeks.
