What it is for

It collects the water draining from the holes of the 45 cm Fenice column planter. The circular raised section in the centre keeps the base of the pot off the supporting surface, so the roots are not left sitting in stagnant water and terrace, loggia or indoor floors are not stained with watermarks and limescale.

How to use it

Place it on the ground and set the column planter on top, matching the square base of the pot with the seat moulded into the drip tray. After each watering, check the level: if water is still standing after two hours, empty it or soak it up with a sponge, especially in winter when water consumption drops.

Outdoors in summer, a few centimetres of water in the side channels act as a reserve on the hottest days. In the cold months, however, we recommend keeping it dry: a thin layer of water that freezes can push the pot and damage its seating. Cleaning with water and a soft brush is enough to remove salt deposits and algae.

Does it fit other 45 cm pots?

No. The seating area and the raised central disc are shaped to fit the base of the Fenice column planter SKU PILONE45. With other square models of the same size the fit is not guaranteed and the pot could be unstable or fail to sit evenly.

What is the raised centre for?

It keeps the bottom of the pot above the water collected in the perimeter channels. This way drainage keeps working even when the tray is full and the compost is not in constant contact with water, a condition that encourages root asphyxia and rot.

Can it stay outdoors all year round?

Yes, the resin of the Fenice line is designed to stay outside, resistant to UV rays and temperature swings. The only precaution concerns frost: it is better not to leave standing water in the channels during winter, because as it freezes it expands and strains the rim.
