Japanese maple bonsai Little Princess (2)

Presentation

This is an Acer palmatum of the Little Princess variety, a dwarf selection with small leaves and short internodes, here 37 cm tall with a 1.5 cm nebari. The new shoots emerge reddish and turn green as the season progresses, as shown in the photo. Suitable for those who already have experience with deciduous broadleaves and want to work on fine ramification.

How to care for it

Always keep it outdoors, in a bright spot but sheltered from the direct sun of July and August, which scorches the margins of the small leaves on this variety. The substrate must be kept moist without waterlogging: in summer it may need watering twice a day, in winter very rarely, checking the surface first.

Frequently asked questions

Is the plant I receive the one in the photo?

Yes, this is a one-of-a-kind specimen and the photo shows the very plant that will be shipped. As it is a living plant, the foliage may differ due to natural growth, pruning, pinching or seasonal changes: the colour of the shoots, in particular, changes between spring and high summer.

Is the pot included in the price?

Yes. The maple arrives already planted in the ivory glazed stoneware rectangular pot measuring 31 x 24.5 x 9 cm shown in the photo. The total weight of plant, pot and substrate is 5.4 kg, a useful figure when deciding where to place it on a terrace.

Can I keep it indoors or on a desk?

No. The Japanese maple is a deciduous broadleaf that sheds its leaves and needs winter cold to rest. It must be kept outdoors all year round, on a balcony, terrace or in the garden. At 37 cm tall it is easy to display on a small presentation table.
