BONSAI TRIDENT MAPLE

BOTANICAL CARD OF BONSAI

ACER BUERGERIANUM

Common Name: MAPLE TRIDENT - Family: ACERACEAE

ORIGIN:

Native to China and Japan, it is characterized by rather small, three-lobed leaves, which is why it is also called trifid. It is certainly the most used maple as a bonsai, both for its extreme adaptability and for the tendency to develop a considerable base of the trunk.

PRUNING:

The pruning of the roots must be done at the same time as the repotting which is ideal to do before the plant opens the buds in spring; the trident maple also lends itself to very drastic root pruning, thanks to its rapid development.

Also potatura of the branching must be carried out before the vegetative awakening.

STAPLING:

The trident maple is a very vigorous plant and fast in the growth of both the branches and the trunk, so it may be possible to pinch the new shoots even 2-3 times in a year. When pinching a branch make sure it is fairly mature and lignified, do not pinch a branch when it is still very tender.

REPOT:

Given the fact that it develops many roots, it should be repotted every year or 2, after the fall of the leaves or before their emission, with 20% oftopsoil, 20% ofsandand 60% ofakadama.

WATERING:

This plant, in the vegetative phase, requires abundant watering, so never leave the soil completely dry,in any case avoid water stagnation, so if you use saucers make sure that the water does not remain deposited.

FERTILIZATION:

Fertilize with organic fertilizers in spring and autumn such asbiogold orhanagokoro, or even with mineral fertilizers like oursCifo Slowbut make sure not to overdo the doses and above all that the fertilizer is slow controlled release. It is also ideal to support the plant with fertilizers based on microelements in the summer in order to support the loss of substances due to the continuous washout of the waterings, this fertilizer is excellent.Sinergon.

EXPOSURE:

This plant does not like direct sun very much, so expose it to partial shade especially in the warmer months, protect in a cold greenhouse if the temperature drops below 0 for prolonged periods.

BINDINGS:

Perform positioning ligatures during the vegetative rest period, taking care to protect the bark. The branches are quite fragile, so be careful when tying.
