BOTANICAL CARD OF BONSAI

MORUS ALBA

Common Name: MULBERRY - Family: MORACEAE

ORIGIN:

Tree native to China, where it has been cultivated for millennia as food for silkworms that feed on the leaves. The genus includes only 12 species. The mulberry has alternate, deciduous leaves, mostly toothed, flowers arranged in pendulous catkins and infructescences with the typical aspect of elongated blackberry of white, red or black color.

PRUNING:

The pruning of the roots must be done at the same time as the repotting which is ideal to do before the plant opens the buds in spring; mulberry also lends itself to fairly drastic root pruning.

Also potatura of the branching must be carried out before the vegetative awakening.

STAPLING:

The mulberry is a very vigorous plant and fast in the growth of both the branches and the trunk, so it may be possible to pinch the new shoots even 2 times a year. When pinching a branch make sure it is fairly mature and lignified, do not pinch a branch when it is still very tender.

REPOT:

If it is a young plant it is advisable almost every year, in the case of older specimens every 2-3 years with 60% oftopsoil and 40% ofsand coarse or equivalent material such as apumice.

WATERING:

This plant likes abundant watering in the vegetative season, in the hottest summer periods it is certainly watered every day, absolutely avoiding water stagnation, so if you use saucers make sure that the water does not remain deposited.

FERTILIZATION:

Fertilize with organic fertilizers in spring and autumn such asbiogold orhanagokoro, or even with mineral fertilizers like oursCifo Slowbut make sure not to overdo the doses and above all that the fertilizer is slow controlled release. It is also ideal to support the plant with fertilizers based on microelements in the summer in order to support the loss of substances due to the continuous washout of the waterings, this fertilizer is excellent.Sinergon.

EXPOSURE:

Heliophilous plant (sun lover), therefore it likes sunnier exposures, in the hottest summer period it is still preferable to protect it from direct sun during the hottest hours of the day. During the winter in cases of temperatures close to 0, protect in a cold greenhouse.

BINDINGS:

Make the ligatures when the plant is bare, especially for convenience since the leaves do not hinder the work, pay attention to the ready-made buds on the branches.
